An Evening of Art & Conversation with Playwright Sarah Shroud & Community Partners

  • California Endowment 1000 North Alameda Street Los Angeles, CA, 90012 United States (map)

This event will feature standalone readings of selected scenes* from solitary confinement survivor Sarah Shourd's critically-acclaimed play, The Box, as well as a panel conversation with members of local partner organizations The Arts for Incarcerated Youth Network, and The Anti-Recidivism Coalition, and artwork around the theme of solitary confinement.

The Box is a rare glimpse into the deep end of our prison system, the intimate bonds forged behind bars, the ripple effects of systematic torture, and what it means to be human.

Rooted in the experience of being removed from family and community, the evening’s art and conversation will center on how our harsh incarceration practices are harming the health of our families and communities.
*Please note, this event is not a full performance of The Box.
